This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.
The Evenhill offers quaint country inn charm set in a lovely, restored 16th century building. The accommodation is purpose built in the style of a countryside barn, set well back from the road and inn, ensuring a peaceful night sleep.
The Evenhill is on the A257 between Canterbury and Sandwich, and just a short drive from the A2.
A train service to Canterbury is available with both taxis and a bus service available.
From the central bus station (which is a short distance from Canterbury East station) service 13/14 run 3 times an hour during the day, and stops outside the public bar.
We have a very large, free car park which can be used by our guests free of charge. Disabled parking is available directly outside of the hotel.
The reception area is situated in the public bar, and has a disabled ramp to the entrance which is 32 inches 82 cm wide. There are two arm chairs, and local tourist information available at the reception desk.
With 16 rooms boasting the English tourist boards four star Inn standard, the Evenhill is capable of catering for holidays, short stays and corporate clients. Each of the newly refurbished rooms comes complete with ensuite bathrooms, digital TV, writing desk, direct dial telephones and tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms are spread over two floors, if you require a ground floor room please advise us of this when making your reservation.
There are 8 Double, 5 twin, 2 Family rooms.
Double rooms:- Our double rooms have double beds. King size bed maybe avaliable upon request. Please ask when making your reservation.
Twin rooms:- Our twin rooms have 2 single beds.
Family rooms:- Our family rooms have one double and two twin beds.
The front door to the hotel is 33 inches 84cm wide
The passage way is 36 inches 91 cm wide
Doors to the rooms are 31 inches 78 cm wide
Bathroom doors are 27 inches 69cm wide
The bath is 22 inches 56cm high
The toilet is 17 inches 43cm high
The rooms upstairs are up 14 9inch 23cm high stairs with hand rails on either side.
All hallways are fully lit, with smoke detectors and emergency exit signs.
The main public area is the bar area, which is located next to the reception area. The bar has seating and wide tables for wheelchair use. In winter there is a large open log fire. We also have a seating area downstairs with arm-chairs and tables, For wheel chair use, access is via the double doors (43 inches 109 cm wide) which open up onto the garden. Also downstairs is our breakfast area. Serving breakfast Monday-Friday 7am-9am and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 8am-10am.
The public toilet is down 8 stairs from the bar area (7inch 18cm high), and can be accessed via the garden for wheelchair users, or via the door at the botom of the stairs for those sat in the downstairs area (which is 29 inches 74 cm wide). A disabled toilet, with hand rails and lowered washing facilities is also avaliable (the door is 32 inches 81 cm wide).
The main evening resturant is up 12 stairs from the breakfast area and has a single hand rail (the steps are 8 inch 20 cm high). Dinner is served Monday-Thursday 6pm-8.45pm, Friday & Saturday 6pm-9.15pm Sunday 12pm-8pm.
On Monday-Saturday we have an extensive seasonal al carte menu, and Sunday we serve a traditional Sunday carvery.
We have a large split level grassed garden with pathway access from the road and car park. There is also extensive seating on hard ground with umbrellas and ashtrays, as the garden is also our designated smoking area. Food is also avaliable in the garden upon request.
Fire exit signs are throughout the public and hotel area, with several exit points. The fire assembly point is in the car park, by the white garage.
Public areas have free wifi access avaliable on request.
